Kangwon Land, the promoter of Kangwon Land (pictured), the country's only casino resort, recently resumed operation of its gaming facilities at limited capacity after COVID-19-related shutdown measures expired on Monday.

Starting Monday, VIP play was allowed up to 68 seats, while some large gaming spaces, including slot machines and electronic tables, could accommodate up to 750 people, according to data described by the Korea Exchange-listed company's investor relations department.

Game facility operations may be subject to further changes depending on South Korea's COVID-19 outlook, the company said.

The Kangwon Land site was first temporarily closed in February, around the start of the pandemic emergency. Some casinos reopened in May, but only in the VIP area, not the main building. It closed again on Aug. 23 amid a surge in infections across the country.

Kangwon Land said in a filing with the Korea Exchange on Oct. 4 that it expects casino sales losses to reach 62.7 billion won ($53.9 million) based on average daily casino sales in the first half of 2020, from 10 a.m. on Aug. 23 to 6 a.m. on Oct. 12.

Kangwon Land Resort is about 150 kilometers (93 miles) from Seoul, the capital of Kangwon Land.

South Korea reported 102 new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 12 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the ministry. The country's confirmed cases were tallied at 24,805, including 434 who died.

Starting this week, there has been a relaxation of social distancing measures applied in the country. South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported that the relaxation coincided with sporadic infection group announcements and a rise in imported cases.

According to the current social distancing rules, there is no limit to the number of participants in a meeting. According to the association, places such as clubs, karaoke rooms, and bars, including the Seoul area, can also operate normally, citing government guidelines.
